Eosinophilic Pneumonia Caused Ballard Inmate's Death

By Chris Taylor

Wickliffe, KY – A medical examiner finds a rare type of pneumonia killed a Ballard County Jail inmate in December. The finding ends over a month-long investigation by the Kentucky State Police after 21-year-old Desmond Dunlow died of eosinophilic pneumonia. The Paducah Sun reports the ailment is caused when white blood cells accumulate in the lungs, causing the level of oxygen in the blood to decrease severely. Dunlow was incarcerated at the facility for several months on a theft charge.
