Springfield, IL – An Illinois lawmaker has proposed legislation to push minimum wage in her state to the highest in the country. Senator Kimberly Lightford is pushing for a raise to ten dollars and three cents per hour. Lightford based that number on the current-day equivalent to the minimum wage in 1968. Opponents say states with a lower minimum wage criticize the move saying raising minimum wage will force businesses to leave for other states.
