Springfield, IL – Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office says it raised nearly $1 billion in state revenue last year through a variety of litigation and estate-tax revenue collections. Madigan's office says estate-tax revenues totaled $236 million and tobacco litigation raised another $284 million. The Madigan's office represents the state, its officers, boards, agencies and employees in legal matters. The Attorney General's office notes the high yields come despite operating on a $30 million budget, the lowest level of funding it's received since 1997.
