Illinois – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he will act this week on a bill that would abolish executions in Illinois. He says, he wants to do more reading and research before taking action, and that his decision will be based on conscience. The governor has spent two months consulting with prosecutors, murder victims' families, death penalty opponents and religious leaders. Illinois is one of 35 states to have the death penalty on the books, though the state has not carried out an execution for more than a decade.
