Frankfort, KY – State representative Steve Riggs is calling on Governor Steve Beshear to consider offering Kentucky National Guard troops to help with recovery work in Japan. The country was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami last week that killed thousands and flattened homes and businesses. Riggs says the Kentucky Guard has expertise in responding to natural disasters. Riggs says there may be additional ways for Kentucky to help, as well.
"Maybe the governor can appoint a coordinator to coordinate all these local efforts we see coming about from religious organization, other local governments, counties, cities."
Riggs says 150 companies in the commonwealth have ties to Japan and they employ some 31,000 people.
