Frankfort, KY – Kentucky air quality officials are reminding residents burning debris left from spring cleaning projects isn't a good idea and could result in fines of up to $25,000 per day per violation. Burning trash is illegal in Kentucky, and the state Division for Air Quality says open burning is unhealthy and dangerous. Division Director John Lyons says today's disposables include plastics, chemicals and other synthetic materials that release toxic pollutants. The agency says it's OK in most counties to have campfires, fires for cooking and fires to dispose of tree limbs except when a county-wide burn ban has been declared.
