TN Law to Be More PC

By Associated Press

Nashville, TN – A new Tennessee bill awaiting Governor Bill Haslam's signature will remove terms like "idiot," "lunatic" and "retarded" from state laws, replacing them with updated language. The bill passed the House Thursday. It will replace "idiot" and "lunatic" with "person adjudicated incompetent." "Disabled" and "handicapped" will become "people with a disability." And "retardation" will be referred to as "intellectual disability." The bill leaves one exception though: a law that forbids issuing marriage license to an applicant who appears to be quote- "drunk, insane or an imbecile" will stay on the books.
