Rain Pushes Back Corn Planting

By Angela Hatton

Mayfield, KY – Continued rain could damage crop yields for western Kentucky farmers. Graves County Agriculture Extension Agent Kenny Perry says about 10 percent of corn has been planted. Fifteen percent is more typical for this time of year. Perry says farmers are anxious, with more rain forecast this weekend. Delays into May mean corn will be subjected to hotter temperatures during pollination and produce fewer ears.
