Hickman, KY – Protective barriers along the city of Hickman are weakening as emergency workers and National Guard troops scramble to reinforce floodgates. Several blocks near the floodwall have been closed to traffic. A gate near Clinton Street is leaking water. Workers have installed a pump there to return flood water back into the Ohio River and have re-enforced the gate with wooden beams and 90 tons of gravel. Fulton County Emergency Management Director Hugh Caldwell tells the Paducah Sun there will not be a catastrophic break in the wall and the seepage is normal.
