Cadiz's Montgomery Precinct Can't Hold Alcohol Referendum

By Angela Hatton

Cadiz, KY – The Montgomery precinct in Trigg County can't hold a referendum to ban the sale of alcohol. That's the decision of the Kentucky Court of Appeals. The Cadiz Record reports the court's ruling reverses a decision Circuit Judge Woody Woodall made in January 2010. The precinct had petitioned to hold a separate referendum after the entire county voted in September 2009 to sell liquor. State law prevents a county from voting on the same issue more than once in a three-year period. Woodall found that the precinct does not operate under the same rules as the county. But the appeals court ruled residents in Montgomery must wait the full three years before they put the issue on the ballot.
