Metropolis, IL – The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission reports that it found no specific areas of improvement for the Honeywell plant in Metropolis. The NRC held a public meeting to discuss the results of their Licensee Performance Review. The review discussed safety operations, radiological controls, facility support and licensing of the plant. An NRC official said that the absence of areas needing improvement does not mean that performance should not be improved. The Metropolis Honeywell plant is the only facility in the United States that creates the main fuel source for uranium enrichment.
