Louisville, KY – The campaign for Republican gubernatorial candidate David Williams is disputing the first poll numbers in the race against Democratic incumbent Steve Beshear, alleging inaccuracies and bias against GOP candidates.
On Thursday, CN2 Pure Politics showed Governor Beshear holding a strong 21-point lead over Williams with 51 percent of the vote and 14 percent of voters still undecided. The Williams campaign highlights two previous polls during the 2010 election that showed the races had wide margins but where much closer in other polls and had different results on Election Day.
Pure Politics managing editor Ryan Alessi says he stands by the results and the polls are snapshot of the voters thinking and not predictors for the election outcome.
"I'm sure any campaign would love to be ahead in all of the polls. But campaigns can say whatever they want about the polls. We're just trying to put out information to the voters about where there their fellow voters are in the voting process and the thinking process about these races," he says.
