Murray, KY – Hopkins County Humane Society President Chris Thorowgood and Vice President Debbie Purdy resigned from their posts during a Humane Society executive session this week. Members of the county board called for their resignations due to a potential conflict of interest. Thorowgood owns Jack's Place, a no-kill shelter which would accept dogs slated for humane euthanasia. While Thorowgood admits to transferring animals from the Humane Society to her rescue, she says that her actions were always for the benefit of the animals.
The county board members claim they were contacted by residents who were concerned that Jack's Place was benefiting financially from the animal transfers. Neither Thorowgood nor Purdy were accused by the board of any misconduct and the county has assured its residents the Humane Society will continue with its day to day operations in the interim.
