Clarksville, TN – The term of the Clarksville mayor could be reduced from four years to two for one cycle under a change approved by the city's Charter Revisions Committee. The committee voted for the two-year term last week. It previously approved a mayoral runoff, but decided to move the first mayor's election to August and then to a different election year to keep the county and city mayors off the same ballot. To do so requires a one-time mayoral term of two years. Councilman Charter Revisions Committee says a two-year term is an easier sale to the public than a six-year term. All changes to the city charter have to be passed by a two-thirds majority of the City Council and then the state legislature.
