Bowling Green, KY – The son of former Kentucky governor Louie B. Nunn will spend the rest of his life in prison. Steve Nunn entered a surprise guilty plea for murder this morning in Fayette circuit court. He was scheduled to go on trial in august for the shooting death of his ex-fiance Amanda Ross.
State representative and former house speaker Jody Richards served with Nunn for more than a decade in the legislature. He called the guilty plea the ending to a tragic story:
"Steve had a great deal of talent but obviously a character flaw and it's just a tragedy. The sooner there's some closure to it, the better off everyone is."
Nunn, a former house member from Barren County, was sentenced to life without parole. Representative Richards says Nunn's accomplishments in the general assembly will likely be forgotten by the actions he took on September 11th, 2009. Amanda Ross was gunned down outside her Lexington home following an abusive relationship with Nunn.
