Governor Beshear Reacts to Former Employee's Admission of Murder

By Stu Johnson

Richmond, KY – Kentucky's Governor says making any observations about a murder carried out by a former state lawmaker is difficult. Steve Nunn admitted today to the shooting death of his former fiance in September of 2009. Beshear hired Nunn early in his administration to serve as Deputy Secretary for Health and Family Services. When asked to comment Beshear said:
"No one can predict what will happen in people's lives and this was one of those tragic situations that I don't know that anybody would have thought would have happened"
Governor Beshear signed Amanda's bill into law in honor of Nunn's victim, Lexington resident Amanda Ross. It provides for the electronic monitoring of suspects in domestic violence cases. The governor hopes the legislation will help to prevent such crimes. Fayette Circuit Judge Pamela Goodwine sentenced Nunn to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The former state representative was scheduled to go on trial for capital murder in August.
