Nashville, TN – General fund revenue collections have started the new Tennessee budget year $18 million above expectations. Mark Emkes says the August revenue collections reflect economic activity in July which is the first month of the budget year. It was the 13th consecutive month that collections exceeded budgeted estimates. Emkes says sales tax collections were up 5 percent from the previous year, while corporate franchise and excise taxes came in at more than double the projected estimate.
