Amish Men Headed to Jail Over Court Fines

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – Nine Amish men are on their way to a Graves County jail for refusing to pay a court ordered fine. The men refused to place the orange safety triangles on the back of their horse drawn buggies, saying the bright color violates their modesty code. District Judge Deborah Hawkins Crooks sentenced the men to a maximum of 10 days in jail when they refused to pay the fine. The sentencing comes after a higher state court denied the men's appeal over the misdemeanor convictions.
