Hopkins County, KY – Plans for a new animal shelter in Hopkins County are being called inadequate by some residents. The plans call for a new 3,000 square foot intake facility attached to the Hopkins County Jail. The existing animal shelter would be renovated and used as an adoption center. Critics say the proposed new facility lacks the size to maintain a humane and sanitary environment. And they say the existing facility is too unsanitary to be renovated. The Madisonville Messenger reports the construction must start by June to utilize state construction grants.
