Washington, DC – Kentucky congressman Ed Whitfield says the bill he's sponsoring, which passed in the House today, would not undermine important public health protections. Whitfield is sponsoring the "Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation" or TRAIN act. The TRAIN act requires a cost-benefit analysis of EPA pollution regulations. Opponents of the bill say it would be used to delay or permanently stop new air pollution rules from being passed. Whitfield, however, disagrees. He says,
"All the train is doing is that were saying lets have an independent government agency, including EPA, do an analysis of cost benefit of all these rules; and we would also like them to look at what impact does it have on America's ability to be competitive in the global marketplace."
A White House spokesperson says the President will veto the bill if it's passed by the Senate.
