Kentucky Military History Museum to Reopen Next Month

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Kentuckians can get their first look at a renovated Kentucky Military History Museum at the State Arsenal this Veterans Day. The Frankfort museum will reopen to the public at a November 11th ceremony. The facility is operated by the Kentucky Historical Society and the state Department of Military Affairs. So far, nearly $1.5 million has been allocated to the renovation project. The project will cost more than $2 million by the time restoration is complete in 2013. The 1 hundred and sixty-one year-old State Arsenal is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A "Kentucky Military Treasures" exhibit will be on display when the museum reopens. Besides artifacts, the exhibition features stories of Kentuckians who fought in battles spanning nearly 200 years.
