Fulton Passes Ordinance to Improve Image

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Fulton, Kentucky is trying to improve its image by cracking down on where residents can put their trash. Fulton Mayor Elaine Forrester says officials approved the ordinance to make the city more attractive. It includes penalties such as fines of up to $500 a day and jail time. The ordinance specifically targets portable outdoor storage units, which hold trash, and semi-trailers. Homeowner Judy Lancaster says she feels targeted because she's had a portable storage unit outside her home for two years, but she's gotten the message. Lancaster says the storage unit will be gone by today. Meanwhile, truck drivers who used to be allowed to park on roadsides near their homes now have a vacant lot where they can store the trailers.
