Murray, KY – Food preparation takes on a whole new meaning this week as Kentuckians prepare their Thanksgiving feasts. Given the risk of food borne illness, Luke Mathias with the Fayette County Health Department, says cooks cannot wash their hands too much:
"If you're prepping say egg salad and then you switch to making a salad, make sure in between those times, in between that switch from one food type to the other that you wash your hands to prevent cross contamination."
Mathias says another health risk in the kitchen can be a simple hand towel. He says using it over and over again while preparing food can spread bacteria from one dish to another.
