Stores open early for Black Friday

By Rick Howlett

Louisville, KY – The arrival of the holiday shopping season has some retailers throwing open their doors earlier and offering deeper discounts to attract shoppers. The National Retail Federation says the number of people planning to hit the stores this weekend has climbed to more than 150 million, a ten-percent increase over last year. Consumer advocates caution shoppers to gather all the information they can about holiday bargains before making purchases. Reanna Smith-Hamblin with the Better Business Bureau in Louisville says retailers are not required to take back merchandise once it's sold.

"Consumers have to realize that they need to take a look at the ads, read the fine print and realize that maybe that TV that's for sale that's a great price, maybe there's only a couple of them in the store."

Smith-Hamblin says anyone with questions about holiday sales or particular retailers should visit the agency's website.
