Murray, KY – The region is currently experiencing an unusually warm winter.
The National Weather Service of Paducah has published a Top Ten list of weather events during 2011 for this region. Included in the list are last spring's floods, August's high temperatures, and a number of severe storms. Meteorologist Jim Packett says the amount of precipitation has broken record levels.
"We started off with massive flooding- the second worst flooding ever in the history of since they've been keeping record. Then we had a very active spring- late spring early summer with the severe weather. Then we had a really really hot summer. Now we've had a very wet fall and early winter."
Packett says December's rain is the result of the La Nina weather system and says if the storm's direction changes, the temperature may drop but west Kentucky and Tennessee will still continue to see precipitation through the rest of the month.
