A miner died Wednesday from injuries in a vehicle accident at an underground coal mine in Hopkins County.

Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet officials in a release say 39-year-old Jeremy Elder of Providence, Kentucky, was brought up to the surface of the Cardinal Mine in Madisonville following the afternoon accident.

The Division of Mine Safety last inspected the mine in June. This is the fourth mining-accident-related death in Kentucky this year, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Mining operations in the accident area have stopped while state agencies are investigating.

This is the second death at an Alliance Resource Partners LP-controlled mine this year. The first death took place at a mine in southern Illinois in January.
