NWS: West Kentucky To Expect Season’s First Snow Monday Night

National Weather Service officials expect in west Kentucky the first wintry precipitation event of the season Monday evening.

The National Weather Service Office in Paducah anticipates one to possibly two inches of snowfall for the region. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said dropping overnight temperatures could cause slick spots for Tuesday morning’s commute. While early season winter-weather events happen every few years, the events can still be a shock.

“We're expecting much colder temperatures for tomorrow morning with windchill values in the single digits or possibly even a little bit below zero," said Derrick Synder, NWS meteorologist in Paducah. "So it'll be gusty winds and very cold tomorrow morning. Definitely early winter season blast for most of the area.”

The KYTC snow and ice season runs from November 1 to April 1. Crews will be called in as needed as the winter system develops. School districts including Hopkins County Schools and McLean County Schools have canceled after-school activities today.
