Former school superintendent Bob Rogers defeated part-time preacher and retired administrator Ed Davis in the Murray mayoral race tonight.

Rogers won with 2,563 votes, beating Davis’s 1,950.

Rogers is the former Murray Independent School District superintendent, and retired from the position in the summer of 2017. When he joined the race Rogers said that his 26 years running a school system prepared him for the position.

Rogers has campaigned on the notion of bringing people together.

The community is divided over a controversial payroll tax.

He has said the parks need improvement and the city needs more sidewalks.

The mayoral race is nonpartisan.
