Kentucky set a record for COVID-19 positive tests on a Monday for the second week in a row.
The state is reporting 647 new cases Monday for a total of more than 88,000. Mondays typically see lower case counts due to lab closures from the weekend.
The state also reported Monday nine Kentuckians died as a result of the virus, increasing the statewide death count to 1,326. Monday’s death toll includes a 73-year-old man from Marshall County.
Public Health Commissioner Steven Stack outlined Kentucky’s plan for the delivery of a coronavirus vaccine. Stack said healthcare workers and vulnerable populations will be at the front of the line to receive the vaccine. He said the federal government expects widespread delivery of a vaccine over the next year.
“Hopefully by the time we reach the end of next year, everybody who has wanted a vaccine will have had the chance to have a vaccine,” Stack said.
