Tennessee Won't Say Which Businesses Got Virus Relief

Tennessee Department of Revenue via Facebook

Tennessee officials aren't revealing exactly which businesses received more than $170 million in relief funds because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Department of Revenue declared such information "confidential" in declining a request from The Associated Press to review the list.

Government checks have been sent to some businesses since the program launched in early June. Payments for eligible businesses range from $2,500 to $30,000 depending on gross sales. According to the revenue agency, approximately 23,000 businesses have received some sort of payment as of Sept. 18.

The deadline to receive payments is Wednesday. The original deadline of Sept. 25 was extended to the end of the month allow more businesses to apply.
