On Sounds Good with Tracy Ross, Constance Alexander and Mike Nutter, Commander of Legion Post 73, discuss the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor event happening today at the American Legion. They also share stories of what it was like to grow up after World War II.
The commemoration begins at 11:48 a.m., exactly 75 years from the time of attack on Pearl Harbor. Nutter says there are no veterans living in Calloway County who experienced Pearl Harbor but this is probably the last significant anniversary of the attack for which any World War II veterans will be alive.
The commemoration will begin with a short talk, a rifle volley, and the playing of Taps. Local WWII veterans will reflect on what it meant to them to live during that time. Constance Alexander will also read portions of her book, Kilroy Was Here, which tells the story of one Kentucky family living through WWII from the childrens’ perspective. Alexander wrote the book after conducting oral history interviews with people who grew up during the war.
American Legion Post 73 is located at 310 Bee Creek Drive in Murray. Doors open at 11:15 and the ceremony runs until 1:00 p.m.
