American Red Cross Providing Support for Marshall County Victims, First Responders, Community

AMERICAN RED CROSS, WESTERN KY CHAPTER VIA FACEBOOK

The American Red Cross is extending their services to aid those impacted by Marshall County shooting.

The humanitarian nonprofit is providing support for family assistance and counseling centers and canteen services for first responders.

Dianne Britton is the Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Manager for the Marshall County response. She said distraction is good and recommends engaging in ‘mindful activities’ such as exercising, reading a book and spending time with loved ones.

“Not that you don’t want to deal with your feelings, but you don’t have to have them bombarding you twenty-four hours a day,” said Britton. “So doing activities that you enjoy, being with the people that matter to you the most is really good.”

She said individuals who have a support system respond best to tragic events. Britton also recommends parents seek strength and support so they can continue helping their children.

Evelyn Miller is the Executive Director for the American Red Cross of Western Kentucky. She said while some members are expected to leave next week, the Red Cross will have local volunteers available to help the community.

“We are available any time, any day for as long as we are needed. So if somebody needs something a month from now or two months from now and it’s based on this event, we’ll be there to listen and to help as we are able, said Miller.”

American Red Cross is providing other assistance to those injured in the shooting.

Marshall County Fiscal Court has set up a donation account for victims at Community Financial Services Bank for anyone who would like to give. The donations will be split between the victims.

Please make checks payable to K.L.C.V.B. (Kentucky Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau) and mail to 93 Carroll Road, Benton, KY 42025. In the memo please write ‘MC Family Fund.’ The account name is Marshall Strong.
