New efforts to remove Asian carp in Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley were announced on Thursday in a release from the office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

An initiative is underway to make far west Kentucky a 'waterfowl mecca.' That's according to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials who are partnering with Ducks Unlimited in a $10 million dollar effort to transform 30,000 acres in Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman and Fulton counties.

The Kentucky House is being asked to urge the State Department of Fish and Wildlife to take steps to help reduce deer-related property or vehicle damage in certain regions of the Commonwealth. The bill passed the full Senate on Friday.

Public lands for hunting in Kentucky have increased by more than 4,600 acres. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife said Wednesday they have opened six new properties, including two in western Kentucky.

  Muzzleloader season starts this weekend for Kentucky deer hunters. While this organic meat offers food for families, the inedible parts are often left where they shouldn’t be. Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Captain Garry Clark says deer dumping is always a problem this time of year.

  Kentucky’s Bow Season for deer is underway and represents  just one aspect of a $770 million dollar industry for the state.  Richard Aiken is an Economist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife-Associated Recreation. Aiken reports of the 347,000 hunters in the state,  301,000 of them hunt for deer, where the other majority hunt for Turkey.

Search and rescue crews found the body of a missing Sacramento, Kentucky woman in Lake Barkley last night after an extensive search. The woman was reported missing at 3:30 pm to the Lyon County Dispatch.

A legislative committee has ordered a review of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, one of the latest signs of a heightened vigilance of the agency's operations by lawmakers.

Sen. Christian McDaniel, co-chairman of the Program Review and Investigations Committee, said lawmakers are expected to be briefed on the status of that review during a meeting Thursday.
