The Owensboro area will have an active primary election season based on the number of candidates running for the Kentucky House of Representatives.

One of the seats up for grabs is the 14th District seat being vacated by Republican Matt Castlen, owner of Castlen Steel, who is running for state Senate. Candidates for that seat are Republicans Jordan Lanham and Scott Lewis. The one Democrat in that race is Elizabeth Belcher.

The 14th District includes parts of Daviess and Ohio counties.

Another race to watch is in the 12th District, where Republican incumbent Jim Gooch does not have a challenger from his own party. However, two Democrats running for that seat, Bruce Kunze and Russell Peyton, will face off in the May 22 primary.

The winners of each party primary will compete in the November 6 general election.
