NPR's Ann Garrels reports from Moscow that Russian President Boris Yeltsin...along with President Clinton and the other leaders of the so-called group of seven industrial nations...wrapped up a summit in Moscow today. The meeting was devoted to nuclear safety issues...such as reducing the risk of smuggling nuclear weapons-grade materials. The leaders pronounced themselves satisfied with the results of their talks and issued a joint declaration outlining steps to enhance the safety of the world. Among those was agreement to push for a comprehensive test ban treaty by this fall. But their efforts today seemed primarily directed at enhancing Yeltsin's standing in advance of Russia's June presidential elections. NPR's Ann Garrels reports from Moscow.
