President Clinton is traveling today in California, which is rich in electoral college votes. The president is trying to take some of the spotlight away from the impending Republican convention in San Diego. Mr. Clinton is picking up more than a million dollars in campaign contributions at two fundraisers. He's also touting his economic record in a speech to the United Steelworkers of America, and unveiling improved juvenile crime statistics in the town of Salinas. NPR's Mara Liasson reports.
