Snow Patrol: Hooky Pop and Elegant Balladry

Listen

Blending melodic, guitar-driven indie-rock with hook-filled pop and Coldplay-style balladry, Scotland's Snow Patrol knows its way around an elegant and memorable song. After releasing a string of U.K. hits in the late '90s and early '00s, Snow Patrol made a major worldwide breakthrough with 2004's Final Straw. Reaching the Top 5 in the U.K. and selling more than a quarter of a million copies in the U.S. — in large part on the strength of the single "Run" — the disc marked a major leap forward for the band, both artistically and commercially.

Snow Patrol's newest release, 2006's Eyes Open, serves as the band's most cohesive and accessible statement yet. Beautiful and epic, the disc spawned a massively popular single in "Chasing Cars," a song that cemented Snow Patrol's status as a go-to band for romantic movie soundtracks for years to come.

This segment originally aired Feb. 2, 2007.
