Cadiz Restaurant Tax

By Angela Hatton

Cadiz, KY – The Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Commission is researching a restaurant tax to help bring in more revenue for the commission. Executive Director Bill Stevens says cities with fewer than three thousand residents like Cadiz qualify for a three percent restaurant tax under Kentucky law. Currently, the commission brings in 130,000 dollars annually from hotel taxes. City officials say tourism is county's biggest industry. Stevens is hoping the restaurant tax will generate enough revenue to fund outreach efforts to grow the industry.

"We would hope to expand marketing efforts basically regionally within probably a five hundred mile radius of the Cadiz and Trigg County area to inform potential visitors of what opportunities are here around the Lake Barkley area."

Other regional communities who have implemented a restaurant tax include Grand Rivers in Livingston County and Eddyville in Lyon County. Stevens hopes to bring the tax proposal before the Cadiz City Council within the next four to six weeks.
