Bowling Green, KY – In Kentucky and nationwide, the National Guard has exceeded its required strength levels in recent years. As the surge following 9-11 continues, the guard finds itself becoming more selective. Sergeant Darren Bowen is a recruiter for the Kentucky National Guard in Bowling Green. Today's recruits must have higher test scores and at least a high school diploma. The age limit has been lowered, medical waivers are no longer an option, and sign-on bonuses are becoming a thing of the past. Kentucky Public Radio's Lisa Autry reports.
