Swine Flu Cases Declining

By Tony McVeigh/ Paco Long-Mendez

Frankfort, KY – H1N1, or swine flu, cases in Kentucky have declined in recent weeks, but state health officials can't predict if the trend will continue. To date, swine flu has claimed at least 36 lives in the commonwealth. State Epidemiologist Dr. Kraig Humbaugh says the infectious disease remains widespread.

"Almost all activity in the state is still due to the novel h1n1 virus. We aren't seeing yet, or detecting, sustained circulating, seasonal flu activity yet. We'll let you know when that occurs."

Meanwhile, swine flu vaccine continues to arrive in Kentucky. To date, the state has been allocated enough vaccine to treat about 26-percent of the population. If you still have questions about swine flu, or seasonal flu, call the flu hotline at 877-843-7727.
