Paducah, KY – Snow is expected to begin falling across our region this evening, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is urging motorists to be extra cautious. Spokesman Keith Todd says because temperatures have been dropping below 20 degrees, the state's regular salt brine treatment is ineffective.
"What happens is when you spray it on the pavement it'll freeze instantly and that presents the potential for creating some hazardous conditions for motorists. And of course, our whole idea in spraying salt brine is to improve driving conditions. That's gonna severely limit the amount of pretreating we can do before this snow event."
Todd says it will be Sunday before the chemicals will start having an effect. He suggests limiting travel and stocking up essentials before the storm hits. Between two and five inches of snow accumulation is forecast for the region.
