Louisville, KY – Officials with Kentucky's largest business organization believe state lawmakers should consider new spending priorities. Kentucky Chamber of Commerce President Dave Adkisson says too much state money currently goes into corrections, Medicaid, and state employee health insurance programs.
"We're not against Medicaid, we're not against public employees having health insurance we're not against people being put to prison if they deserve to be put to prison, what we're saying is we have to be smarter in how we do that."
Long time state representative Jimmy Lee agrees they may be able to cut costs by making Medicaid more efficient. As far as more state workers paying a portion of their health insurance premiums, Lee says it would probably only apply to new employees. However, he adds that's an issue that must be decided by someone in a higher economic bracket.
