Frankfort, KY – Governor Steve Beshear met for two hours Friday with Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Senate President David Williams. The three are trying to restart budget negotiations, after the 2010 session ended in a budget stalemate April 15th. Beshear says more meetings are planned in coming days.
"Both on the road plan and its budget, as well as the General Fund. We'll be pulling in any number of people to help us in that regard. My job as I look at it is to try to make suggestions and find different ideas in the areas, particularly, where they disagree."
Beshear intends to call a special session on the budget next month. He wants a new budget in place by June 1st. The state's new budget cycle begins July 1st. Failure to pass a budget will result in a partial shutdown of state government.
