Martin, TN – Political commentators are calling the U-S Congressional race in Tennessee's 8th District one of the most complex this mid-term election season. Congressman John Tanner announced his retirement last fall after over 20 years in Washington. State Senator Roy Herron is running on the Democratic ticket, and is the favorite to win the party's nomination in August. Five Republicans face off in the primary. Three frontrunners have emerged: two doctors, George Flinn of Memphis, and Ron Kirkland of Jackson. The third, Stephen Fincher of Frog Jump is a farmer and gospel singer, and he was the Republican party's original choice to run against Tanner before Tanner decided to retire. To help untangle the race, Angela Hatton speaks with University of Tennessee Martin Associate Professor of Political Science Dr. Chris Baxter.
