Paducah, KY – The McCracken County School Board is waiting for a decision from the state Attorney General's office on whether a member must run for office in November. The Paducah Sun reports Governor Steve Beshear appointed Jeff Parker to the board in 2009 after another member chose not to file for re-election. School officials say conflicting term laws exist, and they don't know whether Parker's term is four years or whether he must run this year. The Attorney General's office has not returned an opinion on the matter. Two other board seats are up for election in November. The openings could attract new members who oppose the county's high school consolidation, and slow the project's process. However, board members say the consolidation is too far along for a reversal.
