Hopkinsville, Ky – Incumbent Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp held onto his position last night, with 57 percent of the vote. This was Kemp's first re-election bid. Speaking from his victory celebration last night, Kemp spoke of what he would like to do in the coming months.
"We want to continue with some of the successful programs we have for improving downtown and improving the inner city. And also public safety. The community policing program that we've begun, I think is showing some success. We also want to work hard to make the city grow."
Kemp will remain mayor through 2014. Challenger Richard Covington was not reachable for comment. Kemp and Covington are both Democrats. No Republicans filed to run. Hopkinsville has had a Democratic mayor since 1989.
