Documentary Highlights Domestic Abuse

By Kentucky News Connection

Frankfort, KY – On the heels of a new domestic violence law, Kentuckians can expect more dialogue on the issue this week. KET 2 debuts a TV documentary Wednesday, called Telling Amy's Story, about the 2001 murder of a Pennsylvania resident, Amy Homan-McGee. She was shot to death by her husband in their home, and her family and co-workers had not realized she was being abused. Mary O'Doherty is economic empowerment director for the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association.

"The story is really relevant to Kentuckians because it sort-of explains how something like domestic violence can be so invisible."

The documentary's relevance in Kentucky connects to the statewide news of former lawmaker Steve Nunn and the murder of his ex-fianc Amanda Ross. Nunn is the lead suspect in the case. More than two dozen Kentuckians were murdered by intimate partners between October 2008 and October 2009.
