Frankfort, KY – Public schools across Kentucky have turned out their latest crop of high school graduates. Valedictorians have long been considered the top students in their classes. In recent years, though, some schools are upping the number of graduates who receive that honor. For example, Hopkins County Central High School graduated 17 valedictorians out of 231 students in their 2010 class. State and federal entities don't set guidelines or regulations on who school officials can consider a valedictorian. The decision is made through local control in each district. To find out more about the trend, Angela Hatton speaks with Kentucky Association of School Administrators Executive Director Wayne Young.
