Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is calling on the Commonwealth's congressional delegation to press for additional financial help for state Medicaid programs.
Beshear sent letters to federal lawmakers from Kentucky Monday urging them to work quickly to approve a proposal to provide additional federal Medicaid funding, which, he says, is needed to help state government through economic hardship. Beshear says state lawmakers had counted on additional federal Medicaid funds to balance a recently passed $17 billion budget.
Without the federal funds, Beshear says Kentucky's budget would be short $238 million, which would force major cuts to Medicaid and other government programs.
