Nashville, TN – Tennessee lawmakers hope to finish their work for the year and adjourn this week. The House is expected to reconvene today and take up its remaining bills, and the Senate is scheduled to do the same on Wednesday. The Senate has passed a resolution for the 106th Tennessee General Assembly to adjourn at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Both chambers were able to work out their differences and pass a state spending plan last week, the only constitutional requirement state lawmakers have.
The nearly $30 billion plan includes a relief program for Tennessee flood victims, saves a program to combat infant mortality and relies on $185 million from the state's cash reserves instead of new taxes to fill a $150 million shortfall.
